What Canadian Casinos Check Before Paying You Out

Nobody enjoys photographing their passport for a website. Knowing precisely what the reviewer looks for is what makes the process short enough to stop mattering.

The examples assume a Casombie account. Check the specifics in your own cashier, since operators differ on the details.

Three Documents Operators Ask For

Verification files fall into three buckets: photo ID, proof of address, and proof that the payment method belongs to you. A provincial driver's licence or passport covers the first. The second needs a utility bill, bank statement or government letter in your own name. The third is a card image with the middle eight digits hidden, or a statement showing the account behind your Interac e-Transfer. Quebec's rules bar businesses in the province from demanding the RAMQ health card as identification, though an offshore operator is not bound by them, so lead with a licence or passport. Send all three together rather than waiting to be asked.

Photographing Documents Without Getting Rejected

Lay the document flat on a dark surface near a window and shoot from directly above with the flash off. All four corners must sit inside the frame with a sliver of table around them, because a crop that clips a corner reads as tampering. Never send a screenshot of your banking app; reviewers want the exported PDF or a photo of the printed page. Keep files under the stated limit, usually 5 MB, and convert iPhone HEIC images to JPG if the upload stalls. Black out your Social Insurance Number wherever it appears — no gambling operator needs it.

The Argument for Verifying at Signup

Verification takes the same twenty minutes in week one as it does on the morning a withdrawal is pending, but the wait lands differently. Documents sent at signup join a queue with nothing riding on them. Documents sent alongside a C$2,400 cashout join the same queue while the balance sits in the account, and a balance you can still see is a balance you can still lose. Most operators freeze the withdrawal request until the file clears, which is the worst moment to discover a bill is out of date. There is also no rule against verifying before you deposit a dollar.

Deposits in Someone Else's Name

The name on the deposit has to be the name on the account, and no operator bends on it. Interac e-Transfer carries the sender's registered name straight through, so a transfer pushed from a spouse's or parent's online banking gets flagged even when the money is genuinely yours. Joint accounts usually pass if you are a named holder; prepaid cards bought with cash usually do not, because nothing ties them to a person. Withdrawals normally return to the method used for the deposit, so a third-party payment can leave funds stranded while support works out where they are allowed to send them.

Not Every Provincial Card Is Photo ID

Reviewers see cards from thirteen issuers and treat them very differently. A BC Services Card issued in its non-photo form is not identification at all, and a health card is turned away in most of the country. Non-drivers are covered: Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan all issue a provincial photo ID card that passes wherever a licence does, and a permanent resident card or a Secure Certificate of Indian Status carries the same weight federally. Take the card out of any plastic sleeve or RFID wallet first, because the sleeve on an enhanced licence blurs the holographic overlay a reviewer checks for. Send the back as well as the front.

What a Half-Verified Account Can Still Do

Verification is rarely all-or-nothing. Most platforms let you deposit and play on an unverified file while holding every withdrawal, and some cap the balance you may accumulate until identity is confirmed. Partial states exist as well: identity accepted, address still pending, payment method not yet proven. Each blocks a different action, and the account page usually says which. The useful habit is reading that panel before requesting a payout, because a request submitted against an incomplete file does not queue — it waits on a document nobody has told you to send.

Photograph documents in daylight, send them whole, and read the account panel instead of guessing which item is still outstanding.
